IndiGo Flight Bomb Threat Triggers Security Sweep at Hyderabad Airport

Security inspection area at Hyderabad airport after an IndiGo flight bomb threat

A bomb threat reported on an IndiGo flight arriving from Ahmedabad triggered a security response at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on Saturday morning, with the aircraft moved to an isolation bay for inspection and specialist teams deployed.

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, the alert was raised after one of the passengers informed authorities that there was a bomb on board. The report said 47 students from Hyderabad were travelling on the flight.

After the aircraft landed at RGIA, security personnel moved it away from regular airport operations to an isolation bay. Bomb disposal personnel and dog squads were deployed to conduct a thorough inspection of the aircraft.

The incident briefly placed airport security protocols at the centre of passenger operations at one of Hyderabad’s main air gateways. Isolation bays are used to separate aircraft undergoing security checks from normal terminal and apron activity, allowing inspection teams to examine the aircraft under controlled conditions.

The available report did not identify the flight number, provide the aircraft’s scheduled arrival time or state whether any suspicious object had been found during the inspection. It also did not provide details of any arrests, detentions or changes to other flight operations at the airport.

The report said further details were awaited. Any confirmation on the nature of the threat, the outcome of the aircraft search and the authorities’ next steps will determine whether the incident resulted in an operational disruption beyond the security inspection.
