Bengaluru Metro Pink, Blue Lines Target May 2027 Opening

Bengaluru Metro’s Pink and Blue lines are being prepared for opening by May 2027, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited planning trial runs on both corridors from November, according to BMRCL officials quoted by Vijay Karnataka.

The Pink Line will connect Dairy Circle and Nagawara, while the Blue Line’s 2A corridor will link Central Silk Board with K.R. Puram and connect the Outer Ring Road corridor. BMRCL is carrying out civil, electrical, traction, signalling and communication work on the two projects as it moves towards integrated testing.

On the Pink Line, the Dairy Circle-Nagawara section includes about 13 km of underground construction within the approximately 21-km corridor. Trial operations are planned between Dairy Circle and Shivajinagar by late October or November. The elevated section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere has completed its statutory safety inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, while work remains on parts of the underground section.

BMRCL officials said 11 trains for the Pink Line have been supplied by BEML. Platform screen doors are being installed at stations for the first time in Bengaluru Metro. Equipment including frames and glass is expected to arrive from China in three containers over the next two weeks, after which installation and integration with the signalling system will begin.

The Blue Line is also being prepared for trial operations. BMRCL has set a target of running trains from the Byappanahalli depot through K.R. Puram to Marathahalli. Officials said work on the corridor is substantially complete apart from signalling, although around 2 km of track installation and construction at some stations is still pending. The plan is to complete work at all stations except Central Silk Board by November.

Two trains have reportedly arrived for the Blue Line and are expected to be used for trial operations. The route is listed as 19.75 km, while the Pink Line’s underground section is listed at 13.76 km in the project details provided by BMRCL officials.

The proposed May 2027 opening is not yet an unconditional operational deadline. BMRCL officials said the final launch will depend on signalling tests, rolling stock integration, inspections and statutory approvals. Trial-run findings will be compiled and submitted to the relevant state and central metro authorities. They added that preparations for the Commissioner of Railway Safety inspection and other approvals are being pursued by March, following instructions to prevent further delays to the Pink and Blue corridors.
