Namma Metro Pink, Blue Lines Target May 2027 Opening

Namma Metro construction and elevated tracks on Bengaluru's Pink and Blue lines

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Pink and Blue lines are being prepared for a targeted opening in May 2027, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited planning to begin trial runs on sections of both corridors from November. The proposed schedule covers the Dairy Circle–Nagawara Pink Line and the Central Silk Board–KR Puram Blue Line, two projects expected to improve connectivity across some of the city’s busiest growth corridors.

BMRCL is working towards starting trial operations on the Pink Line between Dairy Circle and Shivajinagar by the end of October or in November. The Pink Line is planned as a 21-km corridor, including a 13-km underground section between Dairy Circle and Nagawara. The underground stretch remains the more demanding part of the project, with work continuing on platform screen doors and their integration with the signalling system.

The elevated section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, covering about 7.5 km, has completed its statutory safety inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, according to the report. BMRCL has also received 11 trains supplied by BEML for the Pink Line. Platform screen doors are being installed at the stations for the first time in Bengaluru’s metro network. Equipment including frames and glass is being brought from China in three containers, with delivery expected within two weeks, after which installation will begin with specialist support.

The Blue Line, also known as Corridor 2A or the Outer Ring Road line, is being prepared for trial operations between the Byappanahalli depot, KR Puram and Marathahalli. BMRCL said that work on the corridor is largely complete apart from signalling, while around 2 km of track installation and construction work at some stations remain pending. The corporation is targeting trial operations towards Marathahalli and plans to complete work at all stations except Central Silk Board by November.

The report lists the Blue Line section at 19.75 km and says two trains have arrived for trial operations. The corridor will connect the eastern part of Bengaluru with the Outer Ring Road, where major technology, commercial and residential activity has expanded around KR Puram, Marathahalli and adjoining areas. Its eventual opening is therefore linked to daily access between employment centres, housing areas and existing metro connections, although the source does not provide a projected passenger capacity or a revised fare structure.

BMRCL officials said coordination between civil, electrical, traction, signalling and communications teams would be critical as the projects move towards integrated testing. Completion of civil works alone will not allow passenger services to begin; the trains and operational systems must be tested together before statutory inspections and approvals can be completed.

A senior BMRCL official said preparations would be made by March for the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety inspection and other statutory approvals. The official also said the final opening would depend on signalling tests, rolling stock coordination and inspections by the relevant authorities. Karnataka minister Krishna Byre Gowda has instructed officials to prevent further delays to the Pink and Blue lines, according to the report. BMRCL’s May 2027 target will therefore remain subject to the outcome of testing, safety certification and regulatory approvals.
