PCMC Adds ₹1.47 Crore to Water Pipeline Work on Kunal Icon Road

PCMC water pipeline work planned alongside Kunal Icon Road in Pimple Saudagar

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has proposed an additional ₹1.47 crore for water pipeline works on Kunal Icon Road in Pimple Saudagar, taking the revised water supply component to ₹3.47 crore and the overall project estimate to nearly ₹39.68 crore before GST and price escalation.

The proposal concerns the development of the road between Shivar Chowk and Govind Garden Chowk in Ward 28. It has been placed before the PCMC General Body for approval. The road project includes civil works, water supply, drainage and electrical infrastructure along a total length of 1,780 metres.

The planned road comprises a 1,480-metre stretch with a width of 18 metres and a further 300-metre stretch with a width of 12 metres. Under the earlier plan, a 300 mm diameter ductile iron water pipeline was to be laid alongside the wider section of the road.

According to the proposal, the additional expenditure is required because of new pipeline works and the relocation of an existing pipeline. PCMC has proposed an additional ₹1,47,40,151 for the water supply component. Its revised cost is estimated at ₹3,47,42,421, excluding the applicable 18% Goods and Services Tax and price escalation.

The revised estimate for the entire project stands at ₹39,68,17,810, also excluding GST and price escalation. The project had received administrative approval of ₹55 crore for Bus Rapid Transit System-related works under the PCMC’s D Ward Office through Administrator Resolution No. 388 dated July 25, 2023.

The revision comes as Pimple Saudagar continues to see the growth of housing societies, educational institutions, commercial complexes and sports facilities. The proposal states that the expected increase in water demand has prompted changes to the pipeline plan for the road corridor.

DRA Consultants, appointed to restructure PCMC’s water supply network, have recommended laying 450 mm and 600 mm diameter ductile iron pipelines on both sides of the road, in addition to the existing 300 mm diameter pipelines in the area. The proposed arrangement is intended to accommodate the expanded water infrastructure along the developing corridor.

The civic proposal also states that the pipeline works should be completed before the road is concreted. Completing the underground utility work in advance would avoid excavating a newly developed concrete road later, when such work could disrupt traffic and require additional restoration.

The General Body will consider the revised estimate and the additional allocation. The supplied report does not state whether the proposal has been approved or provide a completion date for the road and water supply works.
