Delhi SIR Starts Voter Reverification After 47.56 Lakh Names Dropped

Delhi SIR voter reverification officials checking electoral roll records at a household

Delhi has begun reverifying more than 47 lakh voters whose names were removed from the draft electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar said on Friday. The exercise is intended to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded from the final lists due on December 4.

The reverification follows complaints that the names of living voters, including some people still residing at their registered addresses, were missing from the draft rolls published on August 31. Booth-level officers (BLOs) have been directed to check the cases of voters whose names did not appear after the enumeration phase.

BLOs are visiting households across Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies to dispose of notices issued to voters whose names appeared in the draft rolls but were flagged for non-mapping or logical discrepancies. During these visits, officials will also reverify voters whose names were removed from the draft lists.

Kumar said around 25 lakh of the 33.12 lakh cases involving voters issued notices for non-mapping or logical discrepancies had been resolved. The discrepancies include errors in personal details and cases where voters were not mapped or linked with the 2002 SIR rolls. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer said all 33.12 lakh notice cases would be resolved by October 30.

The draft rolls contain the names of 97.53 lakh voters. Of the 1.45 crore voters covered after the enumeration phase, 47.56 lakh were removed from the draft rolls as ASDD cases. The category includes voters classified as absent, shifted, dead or duplicate.

Voters whose names were left out of the draft rolls can submit Form 6 to seek inclusion in the final electoral rolls. The form is used to apply for the addition of a name to the voters’ list. Officials have also been instructed not to reject cases summarily when the voter’s details contain only minor errors.

The reverification places the household-level role of BLOs at the centre of the final stage of the revision. Their visits will determine how cases involving removed voters, unresolved notices and errors in personal details are processed before the final lists are issued. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer has said the final voters lists will be published on December 4.
