GMR Aero Technic Partnership Expands Hyderabad Aircraft MRO Plans

GMR Aero Technic partnership supporting aircraft maintenance at a Hyderabad aviation facility

GMR Aero Technic has signed a memorandum of understanding with Canada-based Corporation Logic Air Inc. to jointly develop aircraft modification, engineering, certification and component-obsolescence solutions for operators in India and international markets.

The Hyderabad-based maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company and Logic Air will initially focus on navigation and operational upgrades for Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, along with engine indication system modernisation for ATR and Dash 8 aircraft. The partnership also covers aircraft modifications that can be carried out during scheduled maintenance, aircraft redelivery programmes and transition checks.

Under the agreement, the companies will explore the validation, adaptation and implementation of eligible Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) and related modification data developed by Logic Air. STCs allow approved technical changes to aircraft designs, subject to the required certification and validation processes.

The collaboration is also expected to cover cabin electrical and structural modifications, additional modifications for the Dash 8 Q400 fleet, freighter conversions and aircraft transition support. Transition work is undertaken when aircraft move between operators, owners or operational roles and can include inspections, modifications and preparation for redelivery.

Logic Air is expected to contribute expertise in aircraft integration, engineering and certification. This includes assessing the applicability of STCs, planning certification and validation, designing installations, conducting testing and providing continued airworthiness support. GMR Aero Technic will contribute its MRO infrastructure and execution capabilities in India.

The two companies will also examine solutions for component obsolescence and on-wing support, alongside training, installation capabilities and long-term maintenance support. Component obsolescence can create operational and maintenance challenges when parts or systems are no longer supported or readily available, making replacement, adaptation and certification important for older aircraft fleets.

Ashok Gopinath, president and accountable manager of GMR Aero Technic, said the partnership would combine Logic Air’s aircraft modification, engineering and certification expertise with GMR Aero Technic’s MRO infrastructure and execution capabilities. He said the companies aimed to deliver integrated solutions alongside maintenance and aircraft transition programmes.

Prashanth Rajanna, executive director of Strategy and Global Business Development at Logic Air, described the collaboration as a platform for Canadian aerospace engineering and innovation to support aviation markets in India, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region.

The companies intend to pursue opportunities with airlines, aircraft lessors and cargo operators in those markets. The MoU does not specify individual airline customers, aircraft quantities, investment commitments or a timeline for commercial deployment. The next stage will involve identifying eligible modification and certification opportunities and developing support arrangements for prospective customers.
