Maharashtra Electoral Roll Revision Opens Statewide Voter Drive

Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer has launched a statewide electoral roll revision drive, asking citizens to check their names in the draft rolls and submit applications, claims or objections by October 26. The campaign is intended to identify newly eligible voters and address omissions or errors before upcoming electoral processes.

The initiative is being conducted by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in coordination with the Election Commission of India. In a press note issued on Thursday, the General Administration Department reiterated the Election Commission’s objective that no eligible voter should be left out of the electoral roll.

The exercise will cover all Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra and will rely on a state-wide administrative network of 36 District Election Officers, 288 Electoral Registration Officers, 7,100 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and 100,253 Booth Level Officers. These officials will assist residents in verifying their entries, submitting applications for inclusion and seeking corrections where required.

The October 26 deadline applies to claims, applications and objections connected with the current revision process. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has urged eligible citizens to check their details in the draft electoral roll rather than wait until the final stages of the exercise.

To make the process accessible at the local level, special camps will be held at polling station locations on October 17 and 18, followed by October 24 and 25. Booth Level Officers will be available at these locations to help voters check their records and complete the relevant forms. The camps are designed to provide an in-person channel for residents who need assistance with registration or corrections.

Form 6 is used by eligible citizens seeking inclusion in the electoral roll. Form 7 can be used to raise objections to proposed inclusions or request deletion of a name. Form 8 covers corrections to existing entries, changes of residence, replacement of the Elector Photo Identity Card and requests to record disability status.

The Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer’s office has clarified that voter enrolment is generally available throughout the year, although claims and objections linked to the current revision must follow the notified schedule. This distinction allows residents to apply outside the current exercise while making the October 26 deadline important for issues being addressed through the present revision.

Citizens requiring assistance can contact the toll-free Voter Helpline at 1950. Helpdesks are also available during office hours at District Election Officer offices and Electoral Registration Officer offices at the Assembly constituency level. District-wise helpline information is available through the Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer’s website.

The next scheduled access points are the special camps on October 17 and 18, followed by the second round on October 24 and 25. Claims, applications and objections related to the current electoral roll revision must be submitted by October 26.
