Mysuru Rain Disrupts Dasara Events as Visitors Seek Shelter

Mysuru rain affecting visitors at a Dasara event venue

Mysuru rain disrupted several Dasara attractions on Thursday night, forcing visitors at the food fair, flower show and cultural programmes to seek shelter as roads filled with rainwater. The downpour continued until midnight, according to a report by Prajavani – Mysuru.

Cloudy conditions had covered Mysuru and nearby areas from the evening, with intermittent lightning preceding the rain. The shower began at around 8.15 pm and intensified for a period, bringing a sharp change to the weather during the city’s ongoing Dasara celebrations.

Thousands of visitors at the food fair on the Maharaja College grounds were caught in the rain while sampling different dishes. Many moved under a large shamiana erected in the middle of the ground for cover. The report said the rain created difficulties across the city as people continued to attend Dasara events.

Visitors to the Dasara flower and fruit exhibition at Kuppanna Park were also caught in the rain. At the Mysuru Palace, audiences continued watching cultural programmes while getting wet. The rain also delayed visitors who had come to view the city’s illuminated roads, with people waiting for the showers to stop before moving around.

The immediate disruption was concentrated around public venues that were hosting large gatherings. The reported waterlogging on city roads added to the difficulty of moving between the venues and waiting areas during the evening. The incident highlights the operational challenge of conducting outdoor and semi-outdoor public events when weather changes quickly during a major festival.

The rain marked the arrival of the post-monsoon showers in Mysuru after a period of unusually warm conditions. The city had experienced summer-like weather during the monsoon, with the maximum temperature crossing 32 degrees Celsius, according to the report. The showers brought relief from the heat and raised expectations among farmers, even as they interrupted Dasara programmes and visitor movement.

The report did not provide rainfall measurements, details of damage or information about any cancellation of scheduled events. It also did not mention any official advisory or response from civic authorities. The immediate impact reported was the disruption caused to visitors and public celebrations by the heavy night-time rain.
