Hyderabad Police have deployed around 3,000 personnel in more than 100 teams across the city under Operation Kavach, intensifying vehicle inspections, document checks and searches for suspected weapons or prohibited substances to prevent crime and identify potential threats.
The operation covers checks on vehicles, suspicious individuals and vehicle documents. Police are also targeting vehicles without number plates, those carrying unauthorised VIP stickers and vehicles with illegal modifications, according to Telangana Today.
In the Charminar Zone, the checks covered the limits of 15 police stations between 1 am and 3 am. Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Khare said the initiative formed part of the zone’s continuing efforts to strengthen public safety.
The security drive is taking place alongside enforcement of restrictions on late-night commercial activity. Hyderabad Police are also conducting Operation Chabutra, under which people found loitering in public places late at night are counselled. Nearly 4,000 to 5,000 people have reportedly received counselling in recent days.
The operation brings together a large police deployment across several parts of Hyderabad, including Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Mailardevpally, Shamshabad, Attapur and Rajendranagar. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar participated in inspections in the latter five areas.
The checks focus on both public places and road traffic. Verifying vehicle documents and identifying vehicles with missing number plates or unauthorised markings are among the measures being used during the drive. Police are also searching for prohibited substances and weapons.
For residents, the operation means increased scrutiny during late-night travel and activity, particularly in areas covered by the inspections. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious people, vehicles or objects through the emergency helpline 112.
The deployment reflects the role of police checks in managing public safety across a large and varied urban area, where late-night transport, commercial activity and movement between neighbourhoods extend beyond individual police-station jurisdictions. The police have not announced an end date for Operation Kavach in the information available.
Hyderabad Police’s immediate next step is to continue inspections, late-night enforcement and public reporting through helpline 112.
