RIICO Offers New Forest Land to Save Jaipur VKI Units

RIICO VKI land dispute involving industrial units in Jaipur’s Vishwakarma Industrial Area

The Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) has moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Bhopal, seeking relief over 2.9087 hectares in Khasra No. 7/2 at Beed Papad village and protection for industrial units operating on the disputed land in Jaipur’s Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI).

RIICO has proposed setting aside an alternative 2.9087 hectares elsewhere within VKI for forestry purposes. The state industrial development agency has also offered to bear the entire cost of afforestation on the proposed replacement land.

The move follows an NGT, Bhopal, direction issued on September 16, 2026, while hearing an application filed by Kamalkant Tiwari. The tribunal directed the forest department to take possession of the land identified as Khasra No. 7/2.

According to the report, several industrial units are currently operating on the land in question. RIICO has told the tribunal that implementing the direction could adversely affect these units and has therefore proposed an alternative arrangement that would retain an equivalent area for forestry within the industrial area.

The proposal places the issue at the intersection of environmental land protection and the continuity of established industrial activity in one of Jaipur’s key manufacturing zones. RIICO said it was taking the interests of entrepreneurs into account while pursuing a resolution through the legal process.

The corporation has filed applications before the NGT seeking a resolution to the matter. It has also appointed an Additional Advocate General and a senior advocate to safeguard the interests of the affected industrial units and present its case before the tribunal.

The NGT is expected to hear RIICO’s application soon. Until the tribunal considers the proposal, the status of the disputed land and the effect of the forest department’s proposed possession on the operating units remain subject to the legal process.

RIICO’s suggested arrangement would involve reserving 2.9087 hectares at another location within VKI, carrying out forestry work there and meeting the full afforestation cost. The corporation has not indicated in the supplied report whether the tribunal has accepted the proposal or issued any interim protection to the industrial units.

The upcoming hearing will determine how the tribunal responds to RIICO’s request and whether the proposed alternative forestry arrangement can address the land-use issue while limiting disruption to the units operating in VKI.
