Delhi Tricolour March Faces Security Tensions After Police Claim

Delhi Tricolour March security deployment near Connaught Place and Central Park

The Delhi Tricolour March planned at Connaught Place on Friday is facing heightened security arrangements after Abhijeet Dipke, convenor of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), alleged that plain-clothes police personnel were monitoring him and that a white Scorpio was following him.

Dipke shared photographs on his X account showing a white Scorpio and several people standing by a roadside at night. In his post, he claimed that the location where he was staying had been surrounded by people in plain clothes and that the vehicle was repeatedly following him. The claim has been attributed to Dipke; the report does not include an independent police confirmation of the allegation.

The march has been announced for 5 pm at Central Park in Connaught Place. CJP is organising it to protest the arrest of its co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka by Delhi Police. The proposed gathering has also received support from the Aam Aadmi Party, while other student organisations are expected to participate.

Delhi Police has increased security around Connaught Place Central Park and Jantar Mantar ahead of the event. The arrangements come as authorities prepare to manage a gathering in one of the capital’s busiest commercial and public spaces. The report does not specify the number of personnel deployed or provide details of any traffic restrictions.

The New Delhi Municipal Council has informed the police that Central Park will remain closed on October 16 and 17 for administrative reasons. Dipke criticised the decision in an X post and questioned whether similar closures would be ordered if organisers announced marches at 100 other locations. The closure means the scheduled venue will not operate as an ordinary public park during the two-day period.

The High Court has declined to stay the proposed CJP march after receiving an assurance from Delhi Police on security arrangements, according to the report. CJP has asked people to assemble at Central Park at 5 pm and has also called for Tricolour Marches in other cities. The immediate operational questions for Friday remain the enforcement of the park closure, crowd management around Connaught Place and the arrangements made by police for the proposed gathering.
