The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Vemulawada rural tahsildar Md. Abubakar and Bhu Bharati operator Sankasala Anil Kumar in Telangana after the operator was allegedly caught accepting an Rs 8,000 bribe linked to the registration of a gift deed for agricultural land.
According to ACB police, the tahsildar had demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant to facilitate the registration of a gift deed involving agricultural land belonging to the complainant’s aunt. The deed was intended to transfer the land into the name of the complainant’s father.
The complainant, unable to pay the demanded amount, approached the ACB. The agency then arranged a trap, under which Anil Kumar was allegedly caught accepting Rs 8,000 on the tahsildar’s instructions, the ACB said.
Both Abubakar and Kumar were arrested and produced before the ACB court in Karimnagar, according to the report. The case brings scrutiny to the functioning of frontline revenue offices, where officials and intermediaries handle land records, registrations and related approvals affecting agricultural property holders.
The transaction involved the Bhu Bharati system, Telangana’s land administration platform. In this case, the alleged bribe was connected to facilitating a gift deed registration, an administrative process that can determine how ownership or family transfers of land are recorded.
The ACB’s account, as reported, identifies the tahsildar as the official who allegedly demanded the money and the Bhu Bharati operator as the person who accepted it during the trap. The arrests represent the immediate action reported by the agency; the allegations will be subject to proceedings before the competent court.
The arrest also drew a public reaction in Vemulawada. Local people reportedly celebrated outside the tahsildar’s office by bursting crackers following Abubakar’s arrest. No further details about the investigation or departmental action were provided in the report.
