A container truck parked without safety lights or reflective markings near Ahmedabad’s Sanathal railway bridge was allegedly involved in a fatal crash that killed two young men, according to a police complaint reported by Gujarat Samachar. Police have arrested the truck driver and begun further investigation.
The crash took place at about 9.15 pm on October 13 near the Polaris showroom, while the two men were travelling towards Ujala from Sanathal. The motorcycle carrying Harshadkumar, also known as Ravi, 24, and his friend Shani Baldevbhai Raval, 20, collided with the rear of the stationary container truck as the road descended from the railway bridge.
The report said the container had been parked on the public road without safety provisions, parking lights or redium reflectors. It also allegedly lacked any warning sign or visible light to alert approaching motorists. The motorcycle struck the rear of the vehicle, causing serious injuries to both riders.
An emergency ambulance reached the location after the crash was reported. Doctors declared both men dead at the scene, according to the report. The motorcycle was also badly damaged in the collision.
The case was registered after Nishleshkumar, the younger brother of Harshadkumar, approached the police. His complaint sought legal action and investigation against the driver of the container truck over the alleged negligent parking of the vehicle.
The incident highlights the immediate safety risk created when large commercial vehicles are left on public roads without adequate visibility measures, particularly near bridge approaches and other locations where motorists may have limited reaction time. The available report does not provide details of the road’s lighting conditions, traffic management arrangements, speed limits or whether the container was authorised to stop at that location.
Police have arrested the container truck driver and are continuing legal proceedings in the case. Further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances of the parking, the vehicle’s movements before the collision and the precise cause of the crash.
