Seraikela road accident site on a bypass with a truck and traffic congestion

A 16-year-old Class X student died after a truck hit his scooter on the Seraikela-Rajnagar bypass in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district while he was travelling to a Dandiya programme organised by his school, police said.

The accident took place near a petrol pump along the bypass on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Sagar Hembram, a student of St Francis De Sales School in Seraikela and a resident of Hadisai village.

According to Vinay Kumar, officer in charge of the Seraikela police station, Hembram came under the rear wheels of the truck when the driver was turning the vehicle towards Rajanagar. The student was riding a scooter at the time of the collision.

The Dandiya programme was being organised by St Francis De Sales School as part of Navratri celebrations. Hembram was travelling to attend the event when the crash occurred, police said.

The impact left the student dead at the scene, according to the report. His body was sent to Seraikela sadar hospital for a post-mortem examination. The procedure is part of the police response as the authorities continue to establish the circumstances of the fatal collision.

Police seized the truck after the accident. Kumar said that efforts were under way to trace and arrest the driver, who had not been apprehended at the time of the report. The police statement did not provide further details about the driver or the circumstances in which the vehicle was being operated.

The crash also disrupted movement on the bypass. Traffic came to a standstill after the accident, resulting in a long traffic jam along the route. The incident therefore affected both the victim’s family and other road users travelling through the Seraikela-Rajnagar corridor.

The bypass connects Seraikela with Rajanagar and carries local traffic through the district. The reported collision occurred at a point where the truck was turning towards Rajanagar, according to the police officer. No further information was provided about road conditions, traffic controls or whether any other person was injured.

Police action in the case includes the seizure of the truck, the post-mortem examination and the search for the driver. The investigation is continuing, with the driver’s arrest identified as the immediate next step by the Seraikela police station.
