Ahmedabad Police Arrest Gangmaster, Solve 8 Theft Cases

Ahmedabad police operation targeting an alleged burglary gang near Ramol

Ahmedabad police have arrested the alleged mastermind of a Sikligar gang accused of carrying out burglaries across Gujarat, solving eight theft cases registered in the city’s Ramol, Vatva GIDC and Amraiwadi police station jurisdictions.

The arrest was made by the Local Crime Branch Zone 8 team during Operation Hunt, a drive targeting wanted accused in bodily offence and property crime cases. Acting on information, the team detained Sher Singh alias Sheru Kalusingh Telpitiya near Vadu Lake in Ramol village, according to the report by Gujarat Samachar.

Police said the accused, who is originally from Khambhat, allegedly managed the gang and guided its members during thefts. Investigators also seized property from him and linked the gang to eight cases recorded in the three Ahmedabad police station areas. The report did not specify the full list or value of the recovered property.

According to the police account cited in the report, the gang used a layered method to target locked houses, shops and warehouses at night. Members allegedly travelled in an expensive car, parked it around the Ring Road area and then stole motorcycles locally to approach locations that had been identified during earlier reconnaissance.

The alleged use of stolen motorcycles was intended to keep the gang’s main vehicle away from the immediate crime scene, police said. After breaking locks and stealing cash and jewellery, the accused allegedly abandoned the motorcycles in isolated locations before returning to their own car and escaping.

The reported pattern places closed properties and lightly monitored commercial premises at the centre of the investigation. Such locations can remain vacant for long periods, particularly at night, making police detection dependent on local intelligence, surveillance and the recovery of linked vehicles or property.

Police said more than 30 cases have been registered against the gang across Gujarat. The arrested accused had previously figured in police records in connection with theft and robbery cases in Vadodara, Nadiad, Ambaliyara, Jetpur and Balasinor, according to the source report. These allegations and past records remain subject to the investigation and legal process.

The arrest follows a broader effort by Ahmedabad police to identify wanted accused through targeted operations. In this case, the investigation is continuing to trace the other alleged gang members and establish their role in cases beyond the eight offences linked to Ramol, Vatva GIDC and Amraiwadi.

The next steps will include questioning the arrested accused, verifying the recovered property, examining the gang’s alleged movements and investigating the additional cases registered across Gujarat. Police are also searching for the other alleged associates, the report said.
