Election officials in Jamkhed have been directed to urgently complete pending work involving 12,750 voter records flagged as unmatched or containing logical discrepancies, after action had been completed in only 2,537 cases, or 20% of the total. The instructions were issued during a review meeting at the Jamkhed tehsil office in Ahilyanagar district.
Deputy District Election Officer Sunil Gadhe reviewed the work of assistant electoral registration officers and directed them to speed up the process of obtaining required documents and taking decisions on voter registration, deletion and correction applications. The review covered records identified as having unresolved matching issues and logical inconsistencies in Jamkhed taluka.
Of the total cases under review in the taluka, 3,782 were classified as unmatched records and 8,968 as records with logical discrepancies. Officials were told to complete the pending work in accordance with the prescribed procedure and within the stipulated timelines.
The meeting also found that some booth-level officers, or BLOs, had not started work despite repeated instructions. The work of BLOs at Jambawadi, Jamkhed electoral roll parts 104 and 105, Dhamangaon and Maharuli was reported to be at zero per cent. Assistant electoral registration officers were instructed to issue notices to the concerned personnel and seek written explanations.
Gadhe expressed strong displeasure over the delay and directly contacted some BLOs during the meeting, ordering them to begin work immediately. He also told reporters that strict action would be taken against BLOs found negligent in carrying out their responsibilities.
The Jamkhed review forms part of a wider exercise across Ahilyanagar district. According to Gadhe, the district has 2,92,452 voters whose records have been classified as unmatched or containing logical discrepancies. Action has been completed in 47,692 cases so far, while work on the remaining records is being handled through approximately 382 assistant electoral registration officers.
The administration’s instructions cover applications related to new enrolment, deletion and correction of voter details. Officials have been asked to examine forms within the prescribed period and follow the notified procedure while deciding each case.
The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections to 26 October, Gadhe said. He also called for maximum enrolment of newly eligible voters during the extended period. The meeting included प्रभारी तहसीलदार Sheetalkumar Savale, Block Development Officer Shubham Jadhav, Election Naib Tahsildar Vishal Sadanapur and officials Pradeep Pandule and Priyansh Sarode.
The next administrative step is the issuance of notices and collection of written explanations from personnel whose work remains incomplete, alongside continued processing of pending voter records before the 26 October deadline.
