Telangana Clears 29 Young India Institutes of Excellence for Students

Young India Institutes of Excellence coaching centre in a Telangana Model School

Telangana will establish 29 Young India Institutes of Excellence in its Model Schools to provide coaching for IIT-JEE, NEET and CLAT during the 2026-27 academic year, a move expected to benefit 3,920 students across the state.

The programme was announced in a release issued by the director of school education on Thursday. According to the statement, one institute will be established in each of the 29 districts covered by the initiative. The release said Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hyderabad, Jogulamba Gadwal and Medchal-Malkajgiri would be excluded.

Of the 29 centres, 20 will provide coaching for IIT-JEE and NEET, while the remaining nine will focus on preparation for the Common Law Admission Test, or CLAT. The programme will operate through Telangana Model Schools and is scheduled to begin in the 2026-27 academic year.

The school education department has released Rs 3.73 crore for implementation. This includes Rs 3.26 crore for the remuneration of external part-time faculty and Rs 47.04 lakh for study material, according to the department’s statement.

Each IIT-JEE and NEET centre will have six faculty members, while each CLAT centre will have five. External guest faculty will be engaged on an hourly basis for 152 working days. Students at all 29 centres will receive study material aligned with the Classes XI and XII curriculum as well as the requirements of the respective competitive examinations.

Implementation will be coordinated by district educational officers and the principals of the identified Model Schools. State-level authorities will monitor students’ preparation and learning outcomes, the department said. The administrative structure places district and school authorities in charge of day-to-day coordination while retaining state-level oversight of academic progress.

The initiative will use an existing network of Telangana Model Schools. The state has 194 such schools spread across 29 districts, offering English-medium education from Class VI to Intermediate. The new institutes will therefore add competitive-examination coaching to institutions that already provide schooling through the higher-secondary level.

The state’s announcement does not specify the names of all the Model Schools selected for the programme, the schedule for faculty engagement or the performance indicators that will be used to assess student outcomes. It also does not state whether the number of participating students will be evenly distributed among the 29 centres.

The programme’s next operational steps are the identification of the participating Model Schools, appointment of external faculty, distribution of study material and commencement of coaching during the 2026-27 academic year. District educational officers, school principals and state-level education authorities will oversee these stages.
