The Bengaluru rain forecast indicates six consecutive days of showers across Bengaluru city and rural areas, including three days of heavy rain from October 17 to 19, after rainfall on Thursday caused waterlogging and traffic disruption in several parts of the city.
According to the India Meteorological Department forecast reported by Prajavani, Bengaluru is likely to receive moderate rain on October 16, followed by heavy rain in some parts of the city on October 17, 18 and 19. Moderate showers may continue on October 20 and 21.
Rain accompanied by strong winds affected several neighbourhoods on Thursday evening after a cloudy day. Rajajinagar, Indiranagar, Basaveshwaranagar, Vijayanagar, Marathahalli and Yelahanka were among the areas that received rainfall, according to the report. Rain also continued in several locations later in the evening.
Waterlogging was reported on roads in Bengaluru and along the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor. Commuters travelling home after work faced difficulties, while traffic movement was disrupted in several areas, according to eyewitness accounts cited in the report. The episode again showed how quickly intense evening rain can affect movement across the city, particularly during peak commuting hours.
For the next 24 hours, the IMD forecast indicates generally cloudy conditions, with moderate rain or thundershowers possible alongside winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius respectively.
Over the following 48 hours, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy. The forecast allows for rainfall ranging from heavy to moderate, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. Temperatures during this period are expected to be around 30 degrees Celsius at the maximum and 20 degrees Celsius at the minimum.
The rainfall comes after warmer and sunnier conditions earlier in the week. The report said the northeast monsoon is expected to begin in the region, with rain forecast to continue through the period leading up to Dussehra. The recent showers brought relief to some residents after the break in rainfall, even as waterlogging and traffic interruptions created immediate problems on the roads.
The forecast places additional importance on the functioning of Bengaluru’s drainage and road network over the coming days. Areas that already experience water accumulation during intense showers may face repeated disruption if rainfall coincides with evening traffic. The immediate effects for residents will depend on the intensity and location of each spell, as well as how quickly water drains from affected roads.
The IMD forecast covers Bengaluru city and rural areas through October 21. Residents and commuters should monitor subsequent weather updates as the predicted rainfall pattern develops.
