Ranchi police and administrative officials conducted flag marches across the city on Thursday ahead of Durga Puja, reviewing security arrangements at puja pandals, sensitive areas and idol immersion routes while urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid spreading rumours on social media.
A strong contingent of police personnel, including the Rapid Action Force and Quick Reaction Team, marched from Albert Ekka Chowk to Sujata Chowk along Ranchi’s main road. The operation was led by ADM Law and Order Dhanajaya and three superintendents of police — Paras Rana, Rakesh Singh and Gaurav Goswami.
Rana said the marches had two objectives: to build a sense of security among citizens and familiarise police personnel with their areas of operation so that they could respond to emergency situations. He urged devotees to observe Durga Puja peacefully and maintain harmony during the celebrations.
The police also advised residents not to pay attention to rumours circulating on social media. People were asked to avoid sharing objectionable material online and to inform the police immediately about suspicious persons.
During the exercise, officials reviewed security systems around puja pandals, identified sensitive areas and examined the prescribed routes for idol immersion processions. Instructions were issued to police personnel deployed at different locations across the city.
Additional flag marches were conducted under several police stations, including Kotwali and Hindpidhi, as officials took stock of local security arrangements. The deployment involving regular police personnel, the Rapid Action Force and the Quick Reaction Team is intended to support policing during the festival period and prepare personnel for possible emergency situations.
The review comes as Ranchi prepares for Durga Puja gatherings and processions that will require coordinated monitoring around pandals, public roads and immersion routes. Police officials have asked residents to rely on verified information, report suspicious activity promptly and help maintain a peaceful environment during the celebrations.
