A nine-year-old boy is trapped about 640 feet inside a 1,050-foot borewell in Phalodi district after falling into the shaft during repair work on Thursday afternoon, prompting an emergency rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Force, police and local administration.
The child, identified as Bhomaram Bheel, fell into the borewell at an agriculture farm in Pooniyon Ki Dhani hamlet, under Nosar Gram Panchayat in Lohawat Panchayat Samiti. The accident took place at around 12.30 pm while a boring machine was being operated to repair the non-functioning borewell.
According to an administration official overseeing the operation, Bhomaram was near his father, Pacharam, who was removing the motor when the boy suddenly slipped into the narrow shaft. His father was unable to reach him before he fell further down the borewell.
Officials said the borewell was nearly 1,050 feet deep. Rescuers lowered a camera into the shaft to locate the child and detected movement at approximately 640 feet. Efforts were also under way to supply oxygen into the borewell to reduce the risk of suffocation while the rescue teams worked to reach him.
Administrative officials, police personnel and an SDRF team reached the farm after the incident and began coordinating the rescue operation. The depth of the borewell and the narrow shaft complicated efforts to bring the child out. The operation continued into Thursday evening, with teams monitoring the child’s position and attempting to maintain oxygen supply.
The accident occurred after the borewell stopped functioning and the family arranged machinery to carry out repairs. The incident drew villagers to the farm as news spread through the hamlet. Bhomaram is the only son of his parents, according to the report.
The rescue operation remained in progress when the report was last updated. Officials and SDRF personnel were continuing efforts to locate and safely extract the child from the borewell.
