Telangana Voter Registration Camps Open Before Final Electoral Roll

Telangana voter registration camps at a polling station in Hyderabad

Telangana voter registration camps were held across the State on Thursday to help eligible citizens enrol or restore their names during the ongoing revision of electoral rolls, with senior election officials inspecting the exercise in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.

The special drive was conducted by the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s office at designated polling station locations. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vasam Venkateswar Reddy visited several camps in Jubilee Hills to review the registration arrangements, according to a press release issued by the election authorities.

The exercise is intended to ensure that every eligible elector is included in the electoral roll while identifying and removing entries that do not meet the prescribed requirements. The authorities said the process would be carried out in accordance with the procedures governing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of electoral rolls.

Electors whose names have been excluded from the draft electoral roll can visit the designated polling station location and submit Form 6 to seek enrolment in the final roll. The deadline for submitting the form during the special drive is October 16, the officials said.

Form 6 is used by eligible citizens to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll. The facility is also available to young electors who meet the eligibility requirements and have not yet been enrolled. The election office’s emphasis on young voters places their enrolment within the same special registration process being conducted during the revision.

The camps provide a designated point for electors to raise issues relating to missing names in the draft roll and submit the required application. However, the press release did not specify the total number of camps held across Telangana, the number of applications received on Thursday or the locations and operating hours of every camp.

The revision process has implications for the final composition of electoral rolls because names excluded from the draft list must be brought to the attention of election officials through the prescribed application process. At the same time, the authorities have stated that ineligible entries will be identified and removed according to established procedures.

The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s office has asked eligible electors affected by exclusion from the draft roll to use the designated polling station facility and submit Form 6 by October 16. The final electoral rolls will incorporate applications processed under the applicable procedures.
