PMRDA Fast-Tracks Industrial Approvals With New Pune Facilitation Centre

PMRDA industrial approvals meeting with officials and Pune region industry representatives

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will establish a dedicated facilitation centre to resolve technical and administrative problems affecting industrial approvals across its jurisdiction, in a move aimed at making clearances faster, simpler and more transparent.

The decision was taken by metropolitan commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhary during a meeting with representatives of industrial associations at PMRDA’s headquarters in Akurdi on Tuesday. Officials reviewed issues involving development permissions, fire no-objection certificates, the Building Plan Management System (BPMS), fee structures, documentation requirements, zoning opinions and pending industrial proposals.

Industrial associations from Chakan, Hinjewadi, Ranjangaon, Talegaon, Pirangut and other industrial areas participated in the meeting. Additional metropolitan commissioner K Manjulakshmi, department heads and other PMRDA officials were also present.

Chaudhary said all industrial proposals would be processed through the fully online BPMS platform. The proposed facilitation centre will coordinate between PMRDA officials and BPMS representatives to resolve difficulties faced by industrial applicants and architects during the application process.

The authority will also provide industrial associations with details of applicable fees, required documents and other essential information. The move is intended to reduce uncertainty for applicants navigating the approval process and improve transparency in the handling of proposals.

The meeting also brought infrastructure problems in industrial areas into the approval and development discussion. Representatives raised concerns about traffic congestion, poor road conditions and inadequate basic amenities in industrial zones across the Pune metropolitan region.

PMRDA has asked industrial associations to submit a list of roads requiring priority repairs. The metropolitan commissioner also directed officials to identify suitable land for a truck terminal to accommodate heavy vehicles and determine locations for fire stations in industrial areas.

The issues are significant for industrial clusters such as Chakan, Hinjewadi, Ranjangaon, Talegaon and Pirangut, where development approvals operate alongside demands for road access, freight movement, emergency response and basic urban services. The authority’s announcement links the processing of industrial proposals with the physical infrastructure needed to support industrial activity.

PMRDA said the facilitation centre would help resolve industry-related issues more efficiently and speed up the implementation of industrial projects. The authority has not provided a public start date for the centre in the information available, while the next steps include coordinating with BPMS representatives, sharing approval-related information with industry associations, assessing priority road repairs and identifying sites for a truck terminal and fire stations.
