Election officials in Jamkhed taluka of Ahilyanagar district have ordered the immediate completion of pending work involving 12,750 voters whose electoral-roll records either could not be matched or contained logical discrepancies. So far, action has been completed in only 2,537 cases, or 20 per cent of the total under review.
The directions were issued during a meeting of assistant electoral registration officers at the Jamkhed tehsil office on Wednesday, October 14. Deputy District Election Officer Sunil Gadhe reviewed the progress and instructed officials to accelerate the processing of unresolved cases.
Of the 12,750 voters under review in Jamkhed, 3,782 records have been classified as unmatched and 8,968 as having logical discrepancies. The election administration is seeking the necessary documents before taking appropriate action on the remaining records.
Gadhe also said strict action would be taken against Booth Level Officers, or BLOs, whose work remained incomplete despite repeated instructions. During the review, officials found that some BLOs had not started work at all. Assistant electoral registration officers were directed to issue notices to such personnel and obtain written explanations.
The meeting identified zero progress at polling locations including Jambwadi, Jamkhed list parts 104 and 105, Dhamangaon and Maharuli. Gadhe expressed displeasure over the lack of progress and directly instructed some BLOs during the meeting to begin the pending work immediately.
The Jamkhed review forms part of a wider electoral-roll verification exercise in Ahilyanagar district. According to Gadhe, the district has 292,452 voters whose records are classified as unmatched or containing logical discrepancies. Action has been completed in 47,692 cases so far, while the remaining cases are being handled through approximately 382 assistant electoral registration officers across the district.
The administration has also been asked to process applications relating to new registrations, deletions and corrections within the prescribed time and according to the established procedure. Officials were briefed on the process and their queries were addressed during the meeting.
The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections until October 26, according to the officials. The deputy district election officer urged officials to maximise the registration of new voters while completing the scrutiny of existing records. The next steps include issuing notices where required, collecting supporting documents and taking decisions on registration, deletion and correction applications within the prescribed timeline.
