The Baruipur police district in South 24 Parganas will deploy between 3,500 and 4,000 police officers, volunteers and THG personnel during Durga Puja to manage crowds, traffic, VIP movement and law and order, according to police officials.

The security arrangements were outlined by Baruipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Soumyajit Barua in the presence of Additional Superintendent of Police (Zonal) Atish Biswas. The deployment is intended to support the safety and convenience of visitors attending puja pandals across the police district.

Police said the arrangements will focus on crowd control and traffic management, alongside maintaining public order during the festival. The announcement comes as large visitor gatherings place additional demands on local policing, road movement and assistance systems around popular pandals.

Around 200 to 250 personnel will be deployed in plain clothes at crowded puja pandals. Their role will include strengthening security in high-footfall locations and helping prevent crime, according to the police district’s announcement. The use of plain-clothes personnel is part of the wider deployment plan rather than a separate public advisory.

Police assistance booths will also be established at large puja pandals. These booths will provide support to visitors and include a child-card system for children who become separated from their parents or guardians in the crowd. The system is intended to help police identify and reunite missing children with their families safely.

Women’s safety arrangements will include women police personnel, Pink Mobile vehicles and WINS teams, identified in the announcement as the Durga Suraksha Bahini. These units will be deployed alongside the wider force to support women visitors and respond to safety concerns in crowded festival areas.

The planned deployment covers several functions that determine how large public gatherings operate: movement of people, vehicle flows, assistance for vulnerable visitors, VIP management and emergency policing. By combining uniformed personnel with plain-clothes teams and assistance booths, the police district is preparing for both visible security and on-site visitor support.

The police administration said its objective is to ensure security while creating a smooth and safe environment for people visiting the puja celebrations. The deployment will remain in place during Durga Puja, with crowd management, traffic arrangements and law-and-order duties forming the main operational priorities identified by the Baruipur police district.
