Residents of NIBM Annexe and nearby areas of Hadapsar have urged Pune Police to act against alleged late-night bike racing, reckless riding and motorcycles fitted with loud or modified silencers on residential roads. The complaints relate mainly to NIBM Road, Mahadevwadi and the Raheja Vista Circle area in Mohammadwadi, where residents say excessive noise and speeding are disturbing families during the night and early morning.
Residents said the alleged activity has affected sleep and created inconvenience for senior citizens, children and other families living in the neighbourhood. They have also raised concerns that the problem continues despite complaints being brought to the attention of the police. Their demands include increased patrolling, inspections of motorcycles suspected of violating noise regulations and action against riders found to be driving recklessly or using unauthorised silencers.
Shiv Sena Pune city chief Pramod Nana Bhangire has also called for police intervention. He said motorcyclists riding recklessly and creating excessive noise were disturbing public peace in Hadapsar, adding that senior citizens, children and families were being affected. Bhangire called for motorcycles fitted with illegal modified silencers to be inspected and for unauthorised silencers to be removed.
“Citizens have the right to live peacefully in their homes. Those who violate traffic rules, ride recklessly and disturb public peace must face strict legal action,” Bhangire said, according to the report. He urged Pune Police to intervene immediately and prevent the alleged incidents from continuing.
Residents described the issue as both a noise nuisance and a road-safety concern. Raj Singh, a resident, said late-night bike racing and loud modified silencers had become a serious concern in NIBM Annexe. He appealed to the police to ensure that residential streets were not treated as racing tracks.
Jaymala Dhankikar, another resident, said the noise from speeding motorcycles was disturbing families, senior citizens and children. She sought increased police patrolling and effective measures to stop the alleged nuisance. Nitin D’Souza said residential roads should enable safe travel rather than reckless riding and unnecessary noise at night, and called for vehicle inspections and action against violators.
The residents are seeking a sustained enforcement drive across NIBM Annexe and neighbouring parts of Hadapsar. The requested measures include preventive patrolling, inspection of vehicles with modified silencers and legal action against those found violating traffic rules or causing excessive noise. The report does not state whether Pune Police has announced a specific enforcement schedule or confirmed action against any individual rider. Residents are awaiting a formal response and continued policing in the affected areas.
