Ahmedabad Road Crashes Kill Four in Two Days as Safety Risks Rise

Ahmedabad road accidents on a ring road involving motorcycles and heavy vehicles at night

Four people were killed in three separate road crashes on Ahmedabad’s ring roads and highways over two days, according to Gujarat Samachar, with the incidents involving a parked container, heavy vehicles and an alleged hit-and-run near major urban routes. Traffic police have registered cases and begun investigations into all three crashes.

The first incident occurred at around 9.15 pm on October 13 on the road from Sanathal to Ujala, near the Sanathal railway bridge and opposite a Polaris showroom. A motorcycle carrying Harshadkumar, also known as Ravi Arvindbhai Madhvi, 24, and his friend Shani Baldevbhai Raval, 20, collided with the rear of a container truck parked on the public road.

The report said the container had allegedly been left without safety markings, a rear reflector or parking lights. Both men suffered serious head injuries and were declared dead at the scene by a doctor from the 108 emergency ambulance service. On the complaint of Nileshkumar Arvindbhai Madhvi, the younger brother of one of the deceased, SG-2 Traffic Police registered a case against the Jharkhand-registered container driver, identified as Sahebkhan Ajimkhan.

The second crash was reported at about 8 pm on October 11 on the ring road between Odhav and Nikol, near a hotel. Shailesh Manabhai Roth, 22, a native of Dungarpur who worked as a construction labourer in Ahmedabad, was riding a Splendor motorcycle when a Rajasthan-registered trailer truck allegedly collided with him. He died at the spot after the truck’s tyre ran over him, the report said.

The case was registered by the ‘I’ Division Traffic Police on the complaint of Shailesh’s father, Manabhai Nathabhai Roth. The report identified the truck driver as having allegedly driven negligently, but did not state whether an arrest had been made.

The third fatal crash took place on the S.P. Ring Road near the junction between Aslali Circle and Kamod Circle on the morning of October 13. Bhavesh Bholabhai Dudhat, 33, who lived in Lambha-Narol and worked as a plant manager at a company in Kheda, was travelling on an electric two-wheeler to an office meeting in Makarba when a Bolero pickup allegedly hit him from behind.

Bhavesh suffered a severe injury to the back of his head and died at the scene. The Bolero driver fled after the collision, according to the report. On the complaint of Bhavesh’s wife, Manishaben, the traffic police began an investigation into the case.

The crashes occurred during the Navratri festival, when night-time and early-morning traffic movement in and around Ahmedabad was reported to have increased. The incidents have brought together several road-safety risks on the city’s peripheral routes: heavy vehicles parked on carriageways, inadequate visibility measures, collisions involving motorcycles and electric two-wheelers, and a driver fleeing after a fatal crash.

The three cases remain under investigation by the traffic police. The supplied report does not provide details of arrests, road lighting conditions, enforcement action against the parked container or the identification of the Bolero driver. Further updates will depend on the police investigations and case proceedings.
