Dhanbad Municipal Corporation will deploy sanitation workers in two shifts across all 55 wards during the festive season, beginning with Durga Puja, to speed up waste removal and maintain hygiene in crowded parts of the city, municipal commissioner Ashish Gangwar said on Wednesday.
The civic body’s plan includes additional cleaning around puja pandals, along roads and in other areas expected to see large gatherings. Ponds and other water bodies will also be cleaned as part of the festive arrangements, Gangwar said.
“A special action plan had been prepared for regular cleaning around puja pandals, along roads and in crowded areas. Ponds and other water bodies will also be cleaned as part of the festive arrangements,” he said.
The two-shift system is intended to ensure that waste generated during celebrations is removed without delay. The municipal corporation said the arrangement would help prevent the accumulation of waste on city streets and reduce the possibility of residents and visitors facing unhygienic conditions during the festival period.
Gangwar announced the measures while attending the closing ceremony of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign at the IIT (ISM) campus in Dhanbad. Sanitation workers, cleanliness coordinators, volunteers and other participants who contributed to cleanliness efforts on the campus were honoured during the event.
The festive plan will cover public locations where footfall is expected to increase, including puja venues, roads and areas around water bodies. The civic body said it would provide adequate manpower and infrastructure to strengthen cleaning operations during the period.
The announcement places waste collection and removal at the centre of Dhanbad’s preparations for large public gatherings. The municipal corporation’s next operational step is to implement the two-shift deployment and the special cleaning schedule across the city’s 55 wards during Durga Puja and the wider festive season.
