Deoghar airport will face tighter surveillance against unauthorised construction and encroachments after Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuwania directed officials to intensify monitoring around the facility. The administration has also ordered stronger emergency preparedness, including regular mock drills under Directorate General of Civil Aviation guidelines.
The directives were issued at a review meeting on Wednesday, where Bhuwania reviewed the proposed airport expansion, security arrangements and passenger facilities. He instructed airport authorities to track construction activity near the airport and take action against structures that violate prescribed norms.
“Any activity that poses a risk to the safe operation of aircraft will not be tolerated. Strict vigilance must be maintained against encroachments and illegal constructions around the airport,” Bhuwania said, according to the report.
The order places land-use control around the airport at the centre of the administration’s safety response. Unauthorised structures and construction activity near aviation facilities can create operational risks, making coordination between the district administration and airport authorities important for enforcement. The report did not specify the number of suspected encroachments, the locations of any identified structures or any immediate demolition or eviction action.
Bhuwania also directed officials to strengthen emergency response arrangements through regular mock drills conducted in accordance with DGCA guidelines. He said the exercises would help improve the response of personnel during emergencies and support safe aircraft operations. The report did not provide a date for the next drill or details of the agencies expected to participate.
Passenger-facing operations were also included in the review. The deputy commissioner instructed airport management to maintain cleanliness, improve passenger facilities and ensure close coordination with the civil administration. These directions link the airport’s operational safety responsibilities with the everyday experience of passengers using the facility.
The meeting was attended by airport director Rajesh Kumar and other officials. The administration’s next steps, as reported, are continued surveillance of construction activity, action against violations, regular DGCA-compliant mock drills and improvements to cleanliness and passenger facilities. Details of the proposed airport expansion and its timeline were not provided in the report.
