Deoghar Airport Surveillance Tightened Over Encroachment Risks

Deoghar airport surveillance and airport facilities in Jharkhand

Deoghar airport surveillance will be intensified to prevent unauthorised construction and encroachments near the facility, after deputy commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuwania directed officials to strengthen monitoring around the airport.

Bhuwania issued the directions during a review meeting on Wednesday, where officials assessed the proposed airport expansion, security arrangements and passenger facilities. The administration said structures or construction activity that violate prescribed norms could pose a risk to aircraft operations.

“Any activity that poses a risk to the safe operation of aircraft will not be tolerated. Strict vigilance must be maintained against encroachments and illegal constructions around the airport,” Bhuwania said.

The deputy commissioner instructed airport authorities to keep a close watch on construction activity in the vicinity and take action against structures built in violation of the applicable requirements. The directions place responsibility on airport and civil administration officials to identify potential risks around the airport and respond to violations.

The review also focused on emergency preparedness. Bhuwania directed officials to organise regular mock drills in accordance with Directorate General of Civil Aviation guidelines. According to the administration, the exercises are intended to improve the readiness of personnel and strengthen coordination during emergencies involving airport operations.

The instructions come as officials review the proposed expansion of Deoghar airport alongside security and passenger-related requirements. The meeting did not disclose the size, cost or implementation timeline of the expansion, nor did it identify any specific encroachment or unauthorised structure.

Bhuwania also asked airport management to maintain cleanliness and improve passenger facilities. He directed the airport authorities to ensure closer coordination with the civil administration, linking operational safety with the day-to-day management of the facility.

Airport director Rajesh Kumar and other officials attended the meeting. The administration’s next steps include tighter surveillance of construction activity, action against violations of prescribed norms and regular emergency mock drills in line with DGCA guidelines.
