West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced plans for a Pepsi plant on 98 acres in Haldia, along with a medical equipment manufacturing facility on another 50 acres, as the state reported a fresh set of industrial investment proposals on Wednesday.
Adhikari made the announcements from Haldia while inaugurating a new phenol and acetone production facility developed by Adperma Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited. The source report said the new chemical plant formed part of an investment of Rs 6,000 crore in Haldia.
According to the announcement, the Pepsi facility will be among two additional plants planned in Haldia. The second plant will manufacture medical equipment. The report did not provide the proposed investment amount, construction schedule, production capacity or expected employment figures for either of the two facilities.
The new phenol and acetone plant is expected to generate direct and indirect employment in Haldia, according to the report. The industrial town, located on the banks of the Haldi river in East Midnapore, is one of West Bengal’s major petrochemical and port-linked manufacturing centres. The new facility adds chemical production capacity to an industrial landscape that already includes Haldia Petrochemicals and other manufacturing operations.
Adhikari also announced that a trauma centre for workers in Haldia is expected to be inaugurated in June 2027. The proposed health facility is intended to improve medical support for workers in the industrial area, although the report did not specify its location, capacity, funding arrangement or implementing agency.
Separately, the chief minister announced that Reliance Group would establish a Campa Cola plant at Haringhata in Kalyani. The foundation stone-laying ceremony is scheduled for October 28, according to the report. No investment value, land area, employment estimate or commissioning timeline was provided for the Haringhata facility.
The announcements come after reports of manufacturing activity involving Lux Cozi and Amul in the state. The source also referred to a proposed deep-sea port at Dadanpatrabar in East Midnapore and a hospital project by the Adani Group in New Town. These projects were cited as part of the state government’s broader effort to attract industrial investment.
The latest announcements place Haldia and Haringhata at the centre of West Bengal’s stated industrial expansion plans. Their implementation will depend on the next stages of land allocation, regulatory approvals, project construction and the formalisation of investment details. The immediate milestones identified in the announcement are the October 28 foundation ceremony for the Campa Cola plant and the planned June 2027 opening of Haldia’s trauma centre.
