A pedestrian was killed and two members of a family were injured after a motorcycle struck him near the KMDA Gate on the Kalyani Expressway in Barrackpore around midnight, according to police sources cited in the report. The deceased man’s identity has not yet been established, while the motorcycle rider remains in a critical condition and his mother is receiving treatment.
The motorcycle was travelling from Kalyani towards Sodepur when it hit the older pedestrian, who was walking along the side of the highway, the report said. The impact threw the pedestrian from the road and also caused the rider and his mother to fall from the motorcycle.
The rider was identified as Kaushik Ghosh and his mother as Arpita Ghosh. Local residents gathered at the location after witnessing the crash and informed the police. Police personnel reached the site, rescued the injured people and took them to Barrackpore B N Bose Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital declared the unidentified pedestrian dead, according to the report. The motorcycle rider’s condition was described as critical, while his mother remained under treatment. The report did not provide further details about the nature of their injuries or the hospital’s latest medical assessment.
