Bengaluru Airport Warehousing Gets Flexible Storage for Festive Cargo

Bengaluru airport warehousing capacity is being expanded with a short-term rental facility aimed at helping freight forwarders and shippers manage urgent cargo storage during festive and other peak-demand periods. Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS) announced the facility on Wednesday at its logistics park near Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

The facility will offer both general and temperature-controlled storage, with rentals starting from one day and no requirement for a long-term lease. AISATS said the arrangement is intended for cargo moving in and out of KIA, particularly when shippers need temporary space at short notice.

The short-term service is located within the BLR logistics park, which AISATS was selected by Bangalore International Airport Ltd to design, build and operate. The 8.1-acre greenfield logistics park began functioning in April and has already reached 75% occupancy, according to AISATS. The company expects occupancy to rise to 90% by the end of the financial year.

The park currently includes a 1.4 lakh square foot general warehouse on the ground floor and another 1.1 lakh square feet on the first floor. The short-term cargo facility has a storage capacity of 25 tonnes spread across 2,000 square feet.

AISATS said the model is designed to address temporary requirements during high-volume periods such as Diwali, Christmas and New Year. It can also be used for project cargo, oversized consignments and specialised goods that may not fit conventional storage arrangements.

The company said the facility had recently been used to store odd-sized medical equipment requiring special care. Its common-user cold storage facility has also handled special chemicals and pharmaceutical ingredients, according to AISATS.

For Bengaluru’s airport-linked logistics network, the facility adds a flexible layer between cargo arrival or dispatch and longer-term warehousing. Such short-duration storage can be used by operators that face sudden demand spikes or need controlled conditions for goods that cannot remain in ordinary warehouses.

The announcement comes as the logistics park continues to build occupancy around KIA. AISATS did not disclose the rental rates, the number of companies currently using the park or the projected cargo volumes that the short-term facility is expected to handle. The company’s stated next milestone is to take overall logistics-park occupancy to 90% by the end of the financial year.
