Yadav Nagar Water Supply Cut Hits 1,000 Delhi Homes for Three Days

Yadav Nagar water supply disruption affecting homes in outer Delhi

The Yadav Nagar water supply has remained disrupted for three days, affecting more than 1,000 homes in outer Delhi after a water pipeline was reportedly damaged during ongoing work by North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL). Residents say the Delhi Jal Board did not provide prior notice and has not restored the supply despite repeated complaints.

The disruption has affected access to drinking water and supplies needed for cooking, bathing and other daily activities, according to residents cited in the report. Households have been forced to depend on alternative arrangements while waiting for the pipeline to be repaired and the regular supply to resume.

Residents said the outage began without advance information from the water utility. They also questioned why the supply had remained suspended for three days after the problem was reported. The interruption has placed particular pressure on households that depend on the local piped network for their daily water requirements.

Dr RP Parashar, president of the Yadav Nagar Residents Welfare Association, said residents would file an online complaint with the Lieutenant Governor if drinking water supply was not restored by Wednesday. He said the relevant department had also been warned about the continuing disruption.

Local residents Satish Saini, Vinod Sharma, Pawan Kumar and Dr Rama Parashar said they had raised the issue with the department but had not received a solution within three days. According to the report, residents also contacted a junior engineer, who attributed the problem to a broken water line.

A departmental official said the Delhi Jal Board pipeline was damaged during NDPL’s ongoing work, leading to the disruption. The official said the water supply would be restored soon. The report did not specify the exact location of the damaged section, the repair status or a confirmed restoration time.

The incident highlights the operational dependence between utility networks in densely settled neighbourhoods. Work carried out for one service can interrupt another when underground infrastructure is damaged, but the immediate public impact is borne by households that rely on uninterrupted access to water. The episode also raises questions about advance communication, coordination between agencies and the availability of temporary arrangements during extended outages.

For residents, the next official milestone is the promised restoration of the Delhi Jal Board supply. The residents’ association has indicated that it will escalate the matter if drinking water is not restored by Wednesday.
