A 22-year-old construction worker was killed and 15 others were injured after an aluminium-alloy structure being erected for an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Mankivali village, Khalapur, Raigad, on Tuesday morning, according to information provided by Khalapur police. The incident occurred at around 10.30 am at a logistics warehouse project being developed on 12 acres of land.
The deceased worker was identified as Subhash Niranjan Yadav, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. He was declared brought dead at Jakhotia Hospital in Khopoli. The injured workers were taken to hospitals in Khopoli and Navi Mumbai for treatment.
API Pradeep Rayannavar of Khalapur police said 12 workers were undergoing treatment at Jakhotia Hospital. Two of them were reported to be in critical condition, based on information from doctors. Two other workers were being treated at Khopoli Municipal Hospital, while another worker was receiving treatment at MGM Hospital in Kamothe.
The warehouse construction was being undertaken for M/s Kasturi Logistics, a Baramati-based company. Work at the site began in March 2026 and had been allotted to Gaurav Engineers, Baramati, which is jointly owned by Sharangod Patil and Subhash Bhiman, according to the police information cited in the report.
Dnyaneshwar Sukhdev Mali was deployed by the engineering firm as the site manager responsible for supervision. A total of 84 workers, all men, were deployed at the site to erect the metal structure. Six cranes and two rollers were also being used during the construction activity.
The collapse has triggered a police investigation. Khalapur police have registered a prima facie case of accidental death, and further action will follow after the structural audit report of the under-construction warehouse shed is obtained, API Rayannavar said. The audit is expected to form part of the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the failure of the structure.
