A 16-year-old boy died after a knife attack involving his maternal uncle in Ahmedabad’s Vastral area, while the uncle, his wife and another young man were injured in the incident, according to a report by Divya Bhaskar. Ramol police have registered cross-complaints of murder and attempted murder and begun an investigation.
The incident took place near Indiranagar Tekra, where Dinesh Devipujak and his wife Poojaben were sitting on Monday night. The teenager, who was reportedly travelling with friends in a pedal rickshaw, was allegedly reprimanded by his uncle over making noise and engaging in playful behaviour.
According to the report, the teenager became agitated and attacked Dinesh with a knife, striking him in the abdomen. Poojaben and Sunil Devipujak were also injured when they intervened. The report did not specify the exact nature or severity of each injury.
Dinesh, who had been injured in the attack, allegedly took the knife from the teenager and struck him in the waist. The boy collapsed after sustaining serious injuries. All those injured were taken by 108 emergency services to Asarwa Civil Hospital, where doctors declared the teenager dead, the report said.
The police have recorded cross-complaints in connection with the incident. One complaint concerns the teenager’s alleged attack on his uncle, aunt and Sunil, while the other concerns the fatal assault on the teenager. The registration of cross-complaints means the circumstances and individual responsibility in the sequence of attacks remain subject to investigation.
An assistant commissioner of police told Divya Bhaskar that the boy had lived with his uncle since childhood because his mother had remarried elsewhere. He had reportedly been living separately for the past three months. The police account places the incident within a family relationship that had changed before the confrontation.
Ramol police conducted a panchnama at the scene and collected evidence, according to the report. Investigators have also begun questioning the injured people receiving treatment at the civil hospital. The next steps will depend on the medical findings, witness statements and other evidence collected during the investigation.
