Delhi Nightclub Death: Five Held After Cab Driver Dies in Assault

Delhi nightclub death investigation outside a club near Ashok Park Metro station

Delhi Police have arrested five people, including a nightclub manager, his wife and three bouncers, after a 29-year-old cab driver died following an alleged assault at a club near Ashok Park Metro station in the Sarai Rohilla area. The incident took place late on October 10, according to police.

The deceased, identified as Daljeet, was a resident of Raghubir Nagar and supported a family that includes his wife, eight-year-old son and father. Police said he had gone to the Tor House nightclub with five or six friends when beer was spilled on the club manager’s wife, triggering an argument.

According to the police account, bouncers then began assaulting Daljeet and his friends. The group allegedly tried to leave the club but was pulled back inside and beaten again. Daljeet suffered the most serious injuries, including a fractured jaw, according to information cited in the report.

Friends told police that they repeatedly apologised and asked the attackers to stop, but the assault continued with sticks and glass bottles. They also alleged that one of the accused displayed a gun and that cash and two mobile phones were taken from the victims. These allegations are part of the investigation and have not been independently established.

The friends eventually managed to take Daljeet out of the club and leave him at his home in Raghubir Nagar. He collapsed near the entrance shortly after arriving. His wife and friends took him to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

One of Daljeet’s friends said the family contacted him after Daljeet became unresponsive. The friend also said that he had seen CCTV footage of the incident and described the assault as severe. Police have seized the nightclub’s digital video recorder and are examining the footage to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify anyone else involved.

The case has also brought scrutiny to how violence inside nightlife venues is handled before victims reach medical care. Daljeet’s family has alleged that they called the police control room during the incident, but that a police vehicle came outside the club and left without making inquiries. Police are investigating this allegation as well.

The arrests cover the club manager, his wife and three bouncers. The investigation is continuing, with the CCTV material expected to help establish what happened inside the venue, the extent of individual involvement and whether the allegations of a weapon and theft can be substantiated.
