The Mobis India Foundation has provided customised mobility equipment to 32 wheelchair users in Kolkata, as part of a programme that has reached 60 beneficiaries across West Bengal, including 28 people in Siliguri.
The equipment was distributed after assessing the physical condition and individual mobility requirements of each beneficiary. The initiative aims to support independent movement and improve access to education, employment, healthcare and social activities for persons with disabilities.
The West Bengal assistance is part of a Rs 6.3-crore national programme being implemented by the Mobis India Foundation across eight states and Union territories. Under the programme, 600 wheelchair users are scheduled to receive mobility support.
The foundation partnered with assistive technology company NeoMotion, developed at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, to provide NeoFly wheelchairs and NeoBolt motorised devices. The equipment was selected and adapted according to the needs of individual recipients rather than being distributed as a standard, one-size-fits-all product.
The Kolkata programme was attended by officials from the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Divyangjan), including director Dr Lalit Narayan, deputy director Saugata Banerjee, assistant director Dr Ameed Iqbal and Prakash Sahu, head of the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics.
Representatives of the Mobis India Foundation included CSR head Santosh Srivastava, CSR executive officer Infant Roshina, logistics deputy general manager Sushant Kumar Behera and assistant manager Sudip Chakraborty.
Roshina said the initiative seeks to help persons with disabilities become self-reliant and encourages them to live with dignity. Dr Narayan said mobility equipment designed around individual requirements plays an important role in improving independence and social participation.
The foundation’s stated national programme target is to support 600 wheelchair users across eight states and Union territories. The supplied announcement does not specify the duration of the programme or the locations of the remaining beneficiaries.
