Maharashtra Voter List Deadline Extended to October 26

The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections on Maharashtra’s electoral rolls to October 26, 2026, giving voters additional time to seek corrections or raise objections under the Special Intensive Revision programme. The earlier deadline was October 12.

Under the revised schedule, claims and objections will continue to be accepted until October 26. The process of issuing notices, examining submissions and disposing of the claims and objections will be completed by November 10, according to the revised programme announced by the commission.

The final voter list for Maharashtra is scheduled to be published on November 16, 2026. The extension follows a request from Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer to allow more time for voters to submit claims and objections relating to the draft electoral roll.

The Special Intensive Revision is being carried out with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. The Election Commission has announced the exercise in Maharashtra and 18 other states and Union Territories. In Maharashtra, the draft voter list was published on August 31, after which voters were initially given until October 12 to file submissions.

The revised schedule now allows claims and objections to be filed during the period from August 31 to October 26. The related process, including issuing notices, scrutiny and disposal of submissions, will run from August 31 to November 10. The commission has also directed that the revised programme be widely publicised.

For residents, the extension is relevant where a name is missing from the voter list or where a voter needs to seek correction of personal details or another entry. The commission’s announcement asks voters who wish to file a claim or objection regarding a name, details or other records in the electoral roll to take note of the revised dates and follow the prescribed procedure.

The extension places the claims and objections stage before the final publication of the electoral roll. The process will therefore determine which submissions are examined and resolved before the final list is released on November 16. No change to the qualifying date of October 1 has been announced in the revised programme.

The Election Commission’s revised timetable makes October 26 the immediate deadline for voter submissions and November 10 the deadline for completing their disposal. The final electoral roll is expected to be published on November 16, 2026, completing the schedule specified for Maharashtra’s Special Intensive Revision.
