Gujarat is likely to experience unusually intense heat from October 13 to 17, with temperatures expected to cross 40°C in some areas, according to the Meteorological Department. The forecast comes as the state approaches the winter season but continues to experience summer-like conditions.
The rise in heat is being linked to north-westerly winds, which are reducing moisture levels and creating hot, uncomfortable conditions during the day. Clear skies and strong sunshine are expected to continue across the state, with no significant possibility of rain.
Rajkot has already recorded the highest maximum temperature in Gujarat at 39°C. Porbandar and Deesa have recorded temperatures of up to 38°C, while Bhuj and Veraval are also expected to remain around 38°C despite their coastal locations.
The report said the heat is affecting daily routines and work, with residents experiencing discomfort during the afternoon. The expected rise in temperatures could increase exposure risks for people working outdoors, travelling during peak daylight hours or spending extended periods in unshaded areas.
Across Gujarat, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 37°C and the minimum temperature around 26°C. Winds are forecast to blow from the north at about 2 miles per hour, while humidity is expected to remain close to 47%.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to take precautions when leaving home during the afternoon. The immediate forecast indicates continued hot and clear conditions between October 13 and 17, with authorities monitoring the temperature trend and rainfall remaining unlikely during the period.
