A 20-year-old engineering student was killed and another seriously injured after a goods vehicle collided with their motorcycle on Bengaluru’s Electronics City flyover early Monday, according to police cited by Prajavani.
The deceased, identified as Rohit from Vijayapura, was travelling as the pillion rider when the collision occurred at about 3.45am. He suffered severe injuries and died at the scene, the report said. Harsha, also 20 and the motorcycle rider, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Both students were studying at an engineering college in Bengaluru and came from the same town in Vijayapura district. They were living in a rented room in Vijayanagar, in the western part of the city.
Alongside their studies, Rohit and Harsha were working part-time as porters, according to the report. Their travel on the motorcycle during the early-morning hours was linked to their routine of combining college education with part-time employment.
The collision took place on the Electronics City flyover, a major elevated road connection in Bengaluru’s southern technology corridor. The report identified the other vehicle involved as a goods vehicle but did not provide details about its driver, the circumstances immediately before the impact or whether any case had been registered.
The incident highlights the risks faced by two-wheeler users on Bengaluru’s high-speed road corridors, particularly during low-traffic, early-morning periods. However, the source report did not state whether speeding, visibility, road conditions, vehicle fitness or any other factor contributed to the crash.
The report also did not provide details about the hospital where Harsha is being treated or his current medical condition beyond describing his injuries as serious. Further information about the police investigation and any action concerning the goods vehicle was not available in the supplied report.
