Mohali’s final voter list has fallen by 1,06,854 electors after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 exercise, with the district’s electorate now standing at 7,47,569. The final electoral rolls were released on October 12 after door-to-door verification, scrutiny of claims and objections, and review by electoral registration officials.
The final count is 46,850 higher than the draft rolls published on August 13, which had listed 7,00,719 voters. However, it remains substantially below the initial figure of 8,54,423 electors recorded before the revision exercise. The election department has not provided a detailed break-up showing how many names were deleted, newly included or altered for other reasons.
The SIR process began on June 25, with 838 booth-level officers conducting door-to-door verification and collecting voter information until July 24. Political parties deployed 3,160 booth-level agents to assist with the exercise. The scale of participation reflects the administrative effort required to verify electoral records across the district and reconcile voter information at booth level.
The draft rolls had identified several categories requiring further scrutiny. Officials reported that 84,795 voters could not be mapped, while 1,09,419 cases showed logical discrepancies. Claims and objections were invited until September 12. Electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers subsequently examined the cases before the final rolls were prepared.
Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Komal Mittal handed over the final electoral rolls to representatives of recognised political parties. The parties received hard copies containing photographs as well as digital copies without photographs. The final rolls are also available with the concerned booth-level officers, electoral registration officers and the district election office.
The district-level figures show that Dera Bassi has the largest electorate, with 2,79,857 voters, followed by Kharar with 2,65,702 and Mohali with 2,02,010. Compared with the draft rolls, Kharar added 18,780 voters, Dera Bassi added 18,775 and Mohali added 9,295 electors.
The final rolls list 3,62,751 men, 3,37,954 women and 14 third-gender electors in the draft-stage figures released in August. The final district-level gender and category break-up was not provided in the supplied report.
For residents whose names are missing from the final rolls, the election department has said that applications for inclusion can be submitted through Form 6 under the continuous updation process. The availability of the rolls through booth-level officers, electoral registration officers and the district election office gives citizens and political parties designated points for checking entries and raising further claims.
