Delhi Schools Ordered to Fix Aadhaar Links for Student DBT Aid

Delhi student DBT aid records being checked at a school office for Aadhaar-linked bank payments

The Delhi Education Directorate has directed all schools to ensure that students’ bank accounts are correctly linked to Aadhaar so eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes without payment delays or errors.

The order covers students receiving support through four schemes administered by the Education Directorate through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). The assistance includes payments associated with items such as uniforms, books and scholarships, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi.

The department has asked schools to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar seeding for beneficiary bank accounts and correct discrepancies in students’ records and banking details. It said inconsistencies in beneficiary information had resulted in payment errors, making record verification a priority for schools and education officials.

Regional Deputy Education Directors have been instructed to coordinate with district and zonal officers to complete the process. School principals have also been asked to check student records and resolve problems affecting payments. The directorate has made available on its portal lists of beneficiaries whose payments are pending or have encountered errors.

Schools must examine the details of students included on those lists and correct bank-account-related discrepancies. After any correction, they have to ensure that the revised bank account is properly linked with the student’s Aadhaar details. The order places responsibility on school administrations to verify records rather than treating failed transactions solely as a banking issue.

The directorate has also instructed schools to organise awareness and assistance camps for students and parents. These camps are intended to explain the Aadhaar-seeding process and help families complete the required formalities. The move makes schools an operational link between beneficiaries, banks and the government’s digital payment system.

Regional Deputy Education Directors will monitor the exercise and coordinate the disposal of pending cases at district and school levels. The department has sought weekly progress reports from districts, including details of corrections made in the bank accounts of students whose DBT payments contained errors and the status of Aadhaar seeding.

The order does not specify in the supplied report a final deadline for completing all corrections. Progress will instead be tracked through the weekly reporting process and the resolution of pending beneficiary cases at district, zonal and school levels.
