Telangana High Court Land Case: Court Protects Harish Rao’s Kin

Telangana High Court land case involving a property dispute in Siddipet

The Telangana High Court has directed the Telangana government not to take coercive action against BRS MLA T Harish Rao’s father-in-law, Madhavarapu Hanmantha Rao, or dispossess him from 3.22 acres of land in Velikatta village of Siddipet district until his petition is decided.

Justice N V Shravan Kumar passed the interim order while hearing Hanmantha Rao’s challenge to a show-cause notice issued by the revenue authorities on September 29, 2026. The notice proposed resumption of the land, according to the report before the court.

The court also directed Hanmantha Rao to submit his explanation to the notice within two weeks. The revenue authorities have been asked to file their counters in the matter. The case will be listed after the Dasara vacation.

Hanmantha Rao’s senior counsel, J Ramchander Rao, argued that the authorities had issued the notice with a predetermined decision to resume the land without giving his client an opportunity to explain his case. He submitted that Hanmantha Rao had purchased the property long ago after paying the required market price and sought protection against its resumption.

The dispute centres on the revenue administration’s proposed action over the 3.22-acre parcel. A resumption proceeding generally places the government’s claim or proposed administrative action against a property at the centre of the case, making the notice and the affected party’s response important parts of the process. In this matter, the court has kept the immediate position unchanged while requiring both sides to place their submissions on record.

Opposing the petition, the government pleader for revenue assured the court that no action would be taken until Hanmantha Rao submitted his explanation. The government also told the court that the reply would be considered and disposed of within the time granted by the court.

The interim direction does not decide the ownership or final legal status of the land. It prevents coercive action and dispossession while the petitioner responds to the notice and the authorities file their counters. The next substantive stage will be the consideration of those submissions when the matter is taken up after the Dasara vacation.
