Former Chennai police commissioner A Arun was questioned for about three hours on Saturday by the police team investigating the handling of a child sexual assault case involving Gem Granites owner R Veeramani, according to a report by the Times of India. Arun, an ADGP-rank officer currently under compulsory wait, was summoned to a secluded location in the city for questioning.
Investigators reportedly put around 80 questions to Arun and recorded his responses in writing. The questioning forms part of the wider probe into how Chennai police handled a case registered in October 2025 after a volunteer submitted a pen drive containing a video purportedly showing the sexual assault of a minor girl to the Anti-Vice Squad.
The investigation has drawn attention to the sequence of police action after the video was submitted. The city police initially filed a closure report dated February 19, 2026, citing, among other reasons, an inability to establish the identity and age of the girl shown in the video.
A special Pocso court rejected the attempt to close the case under the ‘further action dropped’ category and ordered further investigation. The court’s intervention shifted the matter from a proposed closure to a renewed probe into the case and the way it had been handled by the authorities.
Following the court order, the Tamil Nadu government formed an all-women special investigation team to examine the child rape cases and other related matters. The team is now questioning officials connected with the earlier handling of the case, including Arun, who was serving as Chennai city police commissioner during the relevant period, according to the report.
The supplied report does not disclose the contents of Arun’s written responses or indicate whether the questioning has resulted in any fresh arrests or charges. The investigation by the special team is continuing, while the court-ordered further probe remains the operative direction in the case.
