Savitribai Phule Pune University has warned students against enrolling at Synergy School of Commerce for the 2026–27 academic year after an inquiry reportedly found that the institution was not operating at its registered address. The university has said it has not granted the college affiliation for the new academic year.
The warning concerns Synergy School of Commerce, operated by Synergy Foundation. According to the university’s notice, students should not seek admission to any course offered by the institution for 2026–27. SPPU has advised prospective students to verify a college’s affiliation status before paying fees or completing admission formalities.
The matter came to light after a student approached the university, alleging that the college had refused to issue her transfer certificate. University officials then attempted to contact the institution by telephone but did not receive a response, according to the report.
Following the complaint, SPPU constituted an inquiry committee. Members of the committee visited the address provided for the college and reportedly found that the institution was not functioning at the stated location. The university’s inquiry therefore raised concerns about whether the college was operating from an approved and verifiable premises.
The public notice was issued by SPPU Deputy Registrar Rajesh Raherkar. It states that affiliation has not been granted to Synergy School of Commerce for the 2026–27 academic year due to various reasons. The notice also asks students to exercise caution before joining the institution.
Under SPPU rules, colleges are required to obtain affiliation before admitting students to courses conducted under the university. Institutions are also not permitted to shift their premises without prior approval from the university. Admissions made without the required affiliation are not authorised under these rules.
The case highlights the administrative checks that students are expected to complete before enrolling in a college. Affiliation determines whether an institution can formally offer courses linked to the university and whether its admissions are recognised within the university’s framework. Fees paid to an unaffiliated institution can also create complications for students seeking academic records, transfer documents or confirmation of their course status.
The development comes amid wider concerns over compliance at colleges affiliated with SPPU. The university has also taken a firm position on institutions operating without full-time principals and faculty members, according to the report. These requirements are part of the conditions governing the functioning of affiliated colleges.
SPPU’s immediate action is the public notice advising students not to take admission to Synergy School of Commerce for 2026–27. The university has asked applicants to check affiliation status directly before completing the admission process.
