The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out demolition action at 24 locations across the capital on Monday as part of a citywide enforcement campaign against unauthorised construction, dangerous buildings and violations of the Delhi Master Plan and building by-laws. Five properties were sealed and five demolition orders were also issued, according to MCD officials cited by Live Hindustan – NCR.
The action was conducted across all 12 MCD zones to enforce building regulations and address structures considered to pose risks to public safety. Officials said the campaign covered several parts of Delhi, including Ganesh Nagar-2 Extension, Shakarpur, Old Seelampur, Gandhi Nagar, New Ashok Nagar and Shakurpur JJ Colony.
The civic body said regional officials had been instructed to maintain strict surveillance and take action under the applicable provisions of the Master Plan of Delhi, building by-laws and other regulations. The MCD reiterated that unauthorised construction and violations within its jurisdiction would not be permitted.
The latest operation is part of a broader enforcement effort that officials said has been continuing for the past month. During this period, the civic body has taken action against about 1,400 properties for alleged violations. The MCD said demolition action was carried out at approximately 1,200 properties, while around 300 shops were sealed. Officials also said multiple demolition orders had been issued against violators.
The enforcement push follows scrutiny of the response of civic and other government agencies after a paying guest building collapsed in South Delhiās Satya Niketan at the beginning of September. The incident prompted questions from local residents and students about the administrative arrangements involving the MCD, the Delhi Development Authority, the district administration, Delhi Police and the Delhi Fire Service.
The MCD said its enforcement teams were conducting ward-level monitoring across all zones, particularly in areas where unauthorised construction was taking place. The corporation is also planning to use drones to monitor selected unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters and other locations in Delhi.
According to officials, drone surveillance will be carried out in parts of West Delhi, North Delhi, North West Delhi, North East Delhi, South East Delhi and South West Delhi. Data gathered through the surveillance will be relayed to MCD enforcement teams, which will then inspect suspected violations involving unauthorised construction, unsafe buildings and breaches of building regulations or the Master Plan.
The civic body said ward-level teams would conduct inspections and coordinate with the police where required. Officials said notices and challans would be issued in cases where violations are identified, while enforcement against unauthorised construction, dangerous buildings and other public-safety risks would continue across all 12 zones.
