Delhi Voter List Correction Drive Clears 20 Lakh Cases Ahead of Final Roll

Delhi’s voter list correction drive has resolved about 20 lakh cases identified during the Special Intensive Revision, while election officials are continuing work on the remaining entries before the final electoral roll is published on December 4.

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said around 33 lakh voter entries had been flagged during the revision because of discrepancies or incomplete details. Notices were issued in cases where application forms contained errors, while some voters were unable to map their names to the 2002 electoral roll.

According to the office, approximately 13.79 lakh voters could not complete the mapping of their names with the 2002 list. A further 19.33 lakh applications were found to contain discrepancies, leading to notices being issued to the concerned voters. The authorities said documentary verification has been completed and the cases resolved for about 20 lakh entries.

The remaining cases are being processed through a door-to-door exercise. Booth-level officers are visiting voters at their homes to collect documents, meaning residents do not need to visit election offices for this part of the process, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.

Special camps will also be held at polling stations on October 18 and October 25. Eligible residents whose names were left out of the draft electoral roll can submit Form 6 at these camps to apply for inclusion. Camps were also held on Sunday as part of the campaign to process claims and applications.

The election administration has said that no eligible voter will be removed from the electoral roll. It has also made separate arrangements for registering families who have become homeless and transgender voters, two groups that can face difficulties when address and identity records do not align with standard registration procedures.

The scale of the exercise has required a large field administration. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said 14,947 booth-level officers, 902 assistant electoral registration officers, 70 electoral registration officers and 13 district election officers have been deployed for the revision.

The process now moves into a deadline-driven stage. Claims and objections are scheduled to be disposed of by November 30, after which the final voter list is expected to be issued on December 4. The October camps and the ongoing home visits are intended to give eligible residents additional opportunities to correct or complete their records before those deadlines.
