Tata-Stellantis Pune Pact Opens New Global Vehicle Export Path

Tata Stellantis partnership vehicle manufacturing facility in Pune

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis have expanded their Pune-based partnership into advanced vehicle technology and product development, with vehicles created under the new agreement planned for manufacture in India and intended for more than 50 global markets.

Stellantis India, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited (TMPV) and its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEM) signed a Definitive Agreement on Monday. The agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2026 and moves the proposed collaboration beyond broad exploration into a defined product technology and vehicle architecture partnership.

Under the agreement, TMPV will provide Stellantis access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis will use its product development and engineering capabilities in India to further develop the technology for international markets, according to a company statement.

Vehicles developed through the partnership will be manufactured in India at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), the 50:50 joint venture between TMPV and Stellantis in Pune. The arrangement places the city’s existing automotive manufacturing base at the centre of a collaboration that combines local vehicle technology with Stellantis’ international product development and market reach.

The agreement also gives the Pune facility a role beyond domestic production. The companies said the vehicles developed under the arrangement would address the requirements of more than 50 global markets, linking Indian engineering and manufacturing capabilities with Stellantis’ overseas distribution footprint. The statement did not disclose the vehicle models, investment amount, production volumes or manufacturing timeline.

The February MoU had identified manufacturing, engineering and supply-chain cooperation in India and overseas as potential areas of collaboration. The Definitive Agreement specifies product technology and architecture as the next area of work, while retaining the broader strategic relationship between the companies.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the agreement was “an important next step” that extended the relationship into advanced vehicle technology and architecture. He said it reflected the strength and competitiveness of TMPV’s capabilities in these areas.

Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis’ Asia-Pacific region, said combining Tata Motors’ capabilities in India with Stellantis’ global product development and market reach would help develop competitive vehicles in India and expand export potential across international markets.

The companies have not announced the first products to be developed under the agreement or provided details of their launch and production schedule. The next stage will involve applying the two companies’ technology, engineering and market capabilities to vehicles manufactured at FIAPL in Pune.
