Residents of Villa Orchids, a gated community in Kowkoor, Hyderabad, protested outside the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office in Secunderabad on Monday after a security guard was arrested in connection with the death of a five-year-old girl at the residential complex.
The residents demanded the harshest punishment for the accused, identified in the report as Vikram Kumar. Carrying placards and posters seeking justice for the child, the group called for a transparent investigation and urged the police to ensure that the case is pursued firmly.
Several residents said the incident had undermined their confidence in the security arrangements of gated communities. One resident said families choose such developments specifically for safety because many residents are working professionals. The resident questioned whom families could trust after a security guard was allegedly involved in the incident.
Another resident demanded that the accused should not be released and called for a law to prevent similar incidents in the future. Residents also said they had faith in the police department and expected justice for the girl’s family.
The protest highlights the dependence of gated residential communities on private security personnel for access control, surveillance and day-to-day safety. In the Kowkoor community, residents’ concerns were focused not only on the individual case but also on whether existing security arrangements can adequately protect children and families inside enclosed residential developments.
The residents met Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi during the protest. According to the report, the commissioner assured them that stern action would be taken against the accused. The residents thanked the police department for its cooperation in investigating the case.
The report said Vikram Kumar had been arrested in connection with the girl’s death. It did not provide further details about the alleged circumstances of the incident, the evidence collected by investigators or the next legal step in the case. The residents’ demand for public execution was made during the protest and does not represent a judicial finding.
The immediate official step is the police investigation into the case. Residents have sought transparency in the probe and continued action against the accused, while the police have assured them that the matter will be dealt with sternly.
