Tata Power Renewable Adds 419 MW, Pushes Storage Build-Out

Tata Power renewable capacity represented by a solar farm, wind turbines and battery storage infrastructure

Tata Power Renewable Energy added 419 MW of utility-scale renewable energy generation capacity during the July-September quarter of FY27, more than doubling the 182 MW commissioned in the year-ago period, the company said on Monday.

The company also executed 131.2 MWh of energy-storage projects during the quarter. The additions have taken Tata Power Renewable Energy’s utility-scale operational portfolio to 7.2 GW, comprising 5.8 GW of solar capacity, 1.3 GW of wind capacity and 281.2 MWh of battery energy storage capacity.

The latest capacity additions included the 100.8 MW Jewali Wind Project, the Kalasar firm and dispatchable renewable energy project with 227.5 MW of solar capacity and a 101.2 MWh battery energy storage system, the 100 MW Kayathar Group Captive Project and the 72.5 MW Tata Steel Captive Project.

Firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects combine generation capacity with storage or other balancing arrangements to provide power with greater scheduling flexibility. Battery storage capacity is increasingly being developed alongside solar and wind projects to help manage variations in renewable generation, although the company statement did not provide details of the projects’ locations beyond the project names.

Tata Power Renewable Energy said more than 2 GW of projects are expected to be executed in the second half of FY27. This pipeline comprises 1,075 MW of solar capacity, 969 MW of wind capacity and 274 MWh of battery energy storage systems. In addition to its in-house projects, the company said up to 300 MW of third-party projects are also expected to be executed during the period.

By the end of FY27, the company expects close to 9.3 GW of projects to have been executed. The planned portfolio includes 6,899 MW of solar capacity, 2,298 MW of wind capacity and 555.2 MWh of battery storage, according to the company.

The company has also outlined a further project pipeline for FY28. It expects to complete about 2.6 GW of projects during that financial year, comprising 570 MW of solar capacity, 1,700 MW of wind capacity and 350 MWh of battery storage. These additions are expected to take Tata Power Renewable Energy’s overall operational capacity to 12 GW.

The capacity expansion comes as renewable power development increasingly includes storage alongside generation assets. For cities and industrial users, that combination is relevant to the reliability of electricity supply because solar and wind output varies according to weather and time of day. The statement, however, did not disclose project costs, commissioning locations for all announced assets, power-purchase arrangements or expected commercial operation dates.

Tata Power Renewable Energy is a subsidiary of Tata Power Company and is among India’s large renewable energy companies. The company said its expanding renewable energy portfolio would support India’s clean-energy transition and energy security. The next stated milestones are the execution of more than 2 GW of projects in the second half of FY27 and completion of the additional project pipeline planned for FY28.
